Sceye’s Stratospheric Airship Successfully Completes Extended Mission

According to НВ — Техно: On September 12, 2023, Sceye announced the conclusion of a groundbreaking month-long mission by its unmanned stratospheric airship, which traveled nearly 30,000 kilometers before returning to the United States. Within the first 13 days, the airship reached the coast of Japan, maintaining an altitude of 16.5 kilometers throughout its flight.

During this mission, Sceye tested its innovative mobile communication system, SceyeCELL, designed to deliver internet access directly to standard smartphones without requiring any hardware modifications. This technology not only transmitted emergency disaster alerts but also maintained communication with drones, enabling the creation of a three-dimensional network. The core mobile network and data processing servers operated onboard the airship in the stratosphere, achieving a response time of 68 milliseconds-40% faster than conventional cloud internet services.

The Promise of SceyeCELL Technology

The SceyeCELL platform has the potential to replace roughly 500 ground-based communication towers, offering an efficient alternative for connectivity. Operating similarly to geostationary satellites but positioned approximately 1,800 times closer to Earth, it significantly reduces operational costs compared to satellite networks. Sceye confirmed that its High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) is ready for extended autonomous flights and commercial deployment.

This mission highlights the transformative possibilities of emerging communication technologies, especially in areas where traditional infrastructure is lacking or compromised. Enhancements in speed and mobile network efficiency could profoundly impact emergency response services and drone operations, paving the way for new commercial applications and the expansion of communication infrastructure across diverse global regions.
