Ex-FSB Colonel Escapes Russia Hidden Inside a Dead Cow
Dmitry Senin's Getaway from Russia
According to Главком: Dmitry Senin, a former colonel with Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) who was convicted in absentia, has disclosed details of two separate escapes from the country. The first happened in 2017, and the second in September 2022. During the latter, Senin spent roughly an hour concealed inside a dead cow's carcass at the Siberian border with Kazakhstan. To avoid detection by thermal imaging cameras monitoring the frontier, he wore a gas mask, a rubber suit, and wrapped himself in foil.
Senin, once a high-ranking FSB officer, claims that during his escape he uncovered a scheme involving the laundering of approximately $600 million. Before leaving Russia for the first time, he returned to Moscow in 2017. After his initial flight, authorities seized property belonging to him, his relatives, friends, and acquaintances. The second escape followed the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.
Pursuit and Security Challenges
Senin also stated that he is the target of a "classic multi-layered operation," which includes:
- technical surveillance
- GPS trackers
- queries to Interpol police databases
- publication of his personal data in European media
"It's like in the movies-it was a race. Because when I left Russia, it's considered an extraordinary event internally, since I'm a carrier of secrets of special importance. A report goes to Putin, because no one will hide it," Dmitry Senin noted.
After crossing the border, a man on a moped picked him up and drove him out of the border zone. Senin is now living underground in Europe. According to him, some Russian agents abroad hold British citizenship. "Europe is still learning how to respond to this," he added. As reported by The Telegraph, parts of his story are difficult to verify.
By fleeing Russia, Dmitry Senin draws attention to the issue of persecution faced by former high-ranking officials and their security outside the country. His account of the surveillance methods and operations directed against him may indicate how seriously Russian intelligence services view potential threats from those who possess classified information. It also underscores the security challenges European countries face as they try to respond to emerging threats in the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
