Ukraine's Power Grid Shifts to Scheduled Blackouts Across Most Regions

Scheduled electricity outages in Ukraine

Status of Ukraine's Energy System

According to Главком: As of the morning of February 9, 2026, most regions of Ukraine have transitioned from emergency to scheduled hourly electricity blackouts. This decision follows a significant 16.5% drop in power consumption compared to the previous workday. The reduction in demand is a direct result of intensified, mandatory energy-saving measures enforced across all regions of the country.

Several of Ukraine's nuclear power plants (NPPs) are operating at reduced capacity due to damage to high-voltage substations. This damage was caused by two consecutive, large-scale attacks on the energy infrastructure. Emergency repair crews are working around the clock to restore the damaged facilities. Currently, some consumers in the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions remain without power.

Appeals to the Public

Representatives of NPC Ukrenergo noted that the persistent efforts of energy workers have enabled the shift from emergency to planned outage schedules in most areas. However, they continue to urge the public to conserve energy by minimizing the use of high-power appliances and postponing energy-intensive tasks until after 11:00 PM.

This nationwide decrease in electricity consumption is a crucial step for energy security, but it requires a conscious and sustained effort from the population to prevent the re-imposition of stricter limits. The situation underscores the ongoing challenges of repairing critical infrastructure and ensuring the future stability of the power grid, which remains a target in the ongoing conflict.
