EU wants to impose tariffs on Russian oil: Hungary and Slovakia under threat

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the European Union plans to introduce tariffs on oil imports from Russia to Hungary and Slovakia. This information became known during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly.

Von der Leyen recalled that the European Union has already reduced gas supplies from Russia, stopped importing Russian coal, and decreased imports of Russian oil. However, oil from Russia continues to flow into the European continent.

Ursula von der Leyen stated that the European Union intends to impose sanctions on the ports receiving LNG from Russia and to establish tariffs on Russian oil. The goal is to eliminate the remnants of oil and gas coming from Russia to the European Union.

According to the announced plan, the European Union aims to cease oil purchases from Russia by the end of the year, but the approval of sanctions is a necessary condition for this step. Earlier, the EU also announced the creation of a 'drone wall' at the borders with Russia.
