Зміни у європейських рішеннях: що очікувати Україні в умовах нових викликів?

The European Union is discussing the possibility of changing voting rules as decisions regarding Ukraine are constantly blocked by Hungary. According to sources from Bloomberg, countries are considering alternative mechanisms to avoid this. It is proposed to replace the principle of unanimous decision-making with a qualified majority voting system, which is likely to be applicable in certain areas by decision of the European Council.

Mario Draghi proposed the idea of implementing qualified majority for decision-making, which is supported by various politicians, including Christine Lagarde. The goal of such changes is to prevent the blocking of decisions in the European Union.

The main source of the problem is Hungary's position, which opposes European initiatives on the Ukrainian issue, financial assistance, and the EU accession process.

Last week, Hungary refused to support the condemnation of Russian attacks on Ukraine, which resulted in the deaths of 25 people. This step raised concerns for Josep Borrell, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, as Hungary obstructs the use of a 6.6 billion euro fund to compensate member states for the costs of dealing with the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine.
