The European Parliament rejected the petition on the border
Європейські депутати не підтримали розгляд петиції стосовно кордону між Фінляндією та Росією.

The European Parliament closed the petition from Finland and the public organization 'Alexandrov Society' regarding the opening of the border with the Russian Federation. The head of the communications department of the highest executive body of the EU, Alessio Incorvaia, confirmed this information, indicating that the decision was made considering the assessment of the European Commission.According to the document, Finland has the right to close points at the border with Russia to ensure national security and public order under the Schengen Code. This may negatively affect the rights of EU citizens to free movement, but it is justified by the situation and security issues, said representatives of the European Commission.Due to the high number of asylum seekers without documents, Finland closed land points at the border with Russia in November 2023. Additionally, to prevent illegal migration, the country built a 35 km fence. This action was prompted by planned increases in smuggling across the border from Russia.
