Coaching Lineup and Preparations for the Upcoming Season
Oksana Khvostenko remains the head coach of Ukraine’s women’s biathlon team, having taken over from senior coach Mykola Zots. Khvostenko, who boasts four World Championship medals and six podium finishes at World Cup events, spent last season as the senior coach of the junior squad. Her leadership helped Ukraine’s junior women’s team secure victories in the relay standings and the Nations Cup during the IBU Junior Cup season.
- Valentyna Semerenko, Olympic champion from the 2014 Games, will take on the role of senior coach for the junior team.
- Tetiana Tarasiuk, under Khvostenko’s guidance, earned the Small Crystal Globe in sprint events.
- Ukraine’s biathlon team has also finalized its roster for the 2026/27 season preparations.
Khvostenko competed in two Olympic Games (2002 and 2006), with her best finish being 20th place in the individual event in Turin. She retired from biathlon after the 2010/11 season.
The addition of Ville Maunuksela to Ukraine’s women’s biathlon coaching staff underscores the team’s drive to improve results at international competitions. His experience, previously honed with the Finnish squad, could prove key in preparing athletes for upcoming events. By keeping Oksana Khvostenko as head coach, the team continues its strategy of strengthening the coaching roster, which may positively impact biathlon’s growth in Ukraine.
As Ukraine's women’s biathlon team enhances its coaching lineup with Ville Maunuksela, the importance of strong leadership in sports becomes increasingly evident. Similarly, the recent appointment of Inna Kochubei as the head coach of the women's basketball team reflects a strategic move to boost performance across different disciplines. These changes signify a commitment to elevating Ukraine's presence in international sports competitions.
