A team of researchers from Beijing and Sichuan published findings in the May issue of Science, documenting a sharp increase in river channel migration and the formation of new bends. Between 1980 and 2020, the rate of channel shifting jumped by one-third, while the number of free-flowing meanders nearly doubled.
