GUR revealed interception: Russian officer orders to torture Ukrainian prisoners
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine stated that they received a recording where Russian commanders order to torture Ukrainian prisoners of war. A commander of a Russian army unit issued an order to apply torture, including 'nail pulling' to those he finds 'most disliked'. This has become another piece of evidence of war crimes committed by Russian military, reports Glavkom.
The Russian government proposed to denounce the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture, which would allow the country to escape the supervision of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture. According to the convention, the Committee has the right to inspect places of detention of individuals deprived of liberty. The Russian government wants to eliminate this provision, reports Glavkom.
The Ukrainian military department received a recording with orders from Russian commanders to torture Ukrainian prisoners of war. This indicates violations of international standards in the treatment of prisoners. Additionally, Russia decided to withdraw from the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture, which raises serious outrage and concern from the international community.
