Electricity imports to Ukraine have surged: reasons
The increase in electricity imports to Ukraine has become a pressing issue, especially during peak load hours when the demand for electricity reaches its maximum. Over the last working week of July, imports rose to 44 thousand MWh, while exports decreased to 32.2 thousand MWh. Experts noted that electricity flows across the border have become an important tool for ensuring the stability of the country's energy system.
'This indicates the critical role of crossings with the EU in balancing the system, especially against a backdrop of limited maneuvering generation reserves,' experts explained.
The growing dependence on electricity imports is associated with a lack of domestic generation in Ukraine following attacks on the energy infrastructure by Russia. Stable electricity supply is currently ensured through cooperation with European partners, but this situation requires effective management of imports and the development of interstate communities.
