Threat of Attacks on Vessels in the Strait of Hormuz

According to Главком: An advisor to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander has issued a warning of potential attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, effectively bringing maritime traffic through this strategic waterway to a halt. The Strait is a primary route for crude oil shipments from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, and recent assaults on oil tankers in the region have heightened tensions. This chokepoint is vital for global energy security, handling about one-fifth of the world's oil supply.

Statements and Conflict Escalation

On February 28th, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the start of a preemptive strike against Iran. This declaration was followed by a series of explosions in Tehran, occurring after repeated warnings from the United States and Israel. General Ebrahim Jabbari, an IRGC advisor, stated:

"The Strait is closed. Anyone wishing to pass, our heroes from the IRGC Navy and Army will set these ships on fire. Do not come to this region."

He further emphasized: "We will not allow oil to be exported from this region until they feel the pressure of a dire situation."

Simultaneously, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the IRGC, urging the Iranian military police to lay down their arms: "I once again call on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Iranian military police, to lay down your weapons and receive full immunity or face certain death. It will be certain death. It will not be pretty."

The situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains tense, and further escalation could impact global oil supplies. This escalation of conflict could have significant consequences for the world economy, as this waterway is critically important for oil transportation. The parties involved in the conflict could negatively affect oil prices and market stability if the threats are carried out. Furthermore, the international community may be forced to respond to the increased tension in the region, potentially leading to a further deterioration of the situation.
