Ukrainians in Ireland: 80 thousand have received temporary protection – new rules

Temporary resettlement status in Ireland
Українці в Ірландії: 80 тисяч отримали тимчасовий захист – нові умови.

Ukrainians in Ireland are numerous and active: according to the Ukrainian embassy, there are currently about 80 thousand of our compatriots who have received temporary protection status. Among them are many women and children. Most Ukrainians have successfully adapted to the new conditions, finding jobs and learning the local languages. However, not everyone will be able to adapt on their own – some show no willingness to do so.

"I do not like the word 'refugees', I use 'displaced persons under temporary protection' instead. Overall, Ireland has granted temporary resettlement status to nearly 130 thousand Ukrainians. But this was at the beginning of the invasion of Russian troops. According to our data, there are currently approximately 80 thousand Ukrainians living here under temporary protection. Before the full-scale Russian invasion, almost 19 thousand Ukrainians lived in Ireland. In general, our community is quite large."

As of March 14, 2024, new rules for housing and social assistance for new Ukrainian refugees in Ireland will be in effect. They are provided with temporary accommodation for 90 days and financial assistance during their stay in the accommodation centers. Weekly payments for adults and children have also been established accordingly. These changes apply only to those who arrive after the specified date.

The Ukrainian community in Ireland continues to actively adapt and receive support in the new living conditions.
