Spain's Plans for a Peacekeeping Mission in Ukraine

According to Главком: Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez has for the first time expressed an intention regarding the participation of Spanish troops in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine after a ceasefire. He announced plans to discuss Spain's contribution to the peace process with parliamentary group representatives, which will begin next Monday. These statements were part of discussions at the meeting of the 'coalition of the determined' held in Paris.

Previously, Pedro Sanchez noted that it is premature to talk about the presence of Spanish troops in Ukraine. He emphasized that a decision on military participation would require support from the Congress of Deputies. Sanchez also expressed confidence in Spain's role as a major European country that would participate in decision-making in the event of a ceasefire.

International Reactions to Military Support for Ukraine

On the international stage, issues of military support for Ukraine are also being discussed. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney mentioned the possibility of deploying Canadian troops to Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement. At the same time, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reported that the deployment of Italian troops in Ukraine is not planned. Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever announced the provision of aviation and fleet to Ukraine after the war's end.

Pedro Sanchez's statements indicate an intensification of the Spanish government's diplomatic efforts in the context of the peace process in Ukraine. Spain's participation in peacekeeping missions could emphasize its role in European security and stability. At the same time, reactions from other countries, such as Canada and Italy, demonstrate different approaches to military support for Ukraine, which may influence the further development of the situation in the region.
