Incidents in the World of Cycling

According to Главком: Spanish cyclist Jaume Guardeño has been airlifted to a hospital and is currently in intensive care after a collision with a car during a training ride. The 23-year-old rider for the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team sustained injuries of varying severity. Guardeño, who placed 14th in the general classification of the Vuelta a España last year, is a promising talent in the sport. Professional cyclists often train on public roads, which exposes them to significant traffic dangers.

In a separate development, Russian cyclist Roman Yermakov has switched his sporting nationality to Slovenian. The 21-year-old, who lives in Slovenia, will ride for the WorldTour team Bahrain-Victorious starting in 2025, having moved from the CTF-Victorious squad. Yermakov has a strong junior record, including a victory in the Aubel-Thimister-Stavelot stage race in Belgium.

The incident involving Guardeño highlights the serious risks professional athletes face during training, particularly in cycling where open-road sessions are common. Yermakov's case reflects a broader trend of young athletes changing sporting nationality, a decision that can significantly impact their careers and international opportunities. These two events underscore the dynamic and sometimes perilous nature of professional cycling, demanding attention from sports governing bodies and the public alike.
