Iranian Terrorist Network Uncovered in Azerbaijan

According to Главком: Israeli intelligence agencies, including Mossad and Shin Bet, have announced the disruption of an Iranian network that was planning attacks on strategic and civilian targets in Azerbaijan. According to the intelligence, the group was preparing to strike:

  • the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline,
  • the Israeli embassy,
  • a synagogue in Baku,
  • and representatives of the Jewish community.

The planned attacks were thwarted several weeks ago, with the network's participants detained by Azerbaijani law enforcement. This incident highlights the expanding reach of Iran's regional proxy operations.

Terrorist Threat and Diplomatic Fallout

Intelligence services report that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was behind the planning of these attacks. The network's operatives intended to use explosive drones and fragmentation charges to carry out their plans and had been gathering intelligence through surveillance and photography of their targets. The network was led by Rahman Moghadam, who headed a special operations unit within the IRGC's intelligence division. Moghadam was killed last month during airstrikes conducted by Israel and the United States.

Israeli intelligence emphasized the significance of this operation. In a joint statement, Mossad and Shin Bet noted:

“This discovery, alongside intensive intelligence investigation and on-the-ground operational activity, helped expose a clandestine terrorist network established within the framework of the IRGC and its chain of command.”

Amid these developments, Iran has refused to participate in a new round of negotiations with the United States. A spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the U.S. violated the agreement during its implementation phase and imposed a blockade on Iranian ports. This ongoing tension between Iran and Western powers continues to destabilize the broader Middle East.

The exposure of the Iranian network in Azerbaijan underscores the persistent threat of terrorism in the region, particularly within the context of the long-standing hostility between Israel and Iran. The actions of the intelligence services demonstrate an active effort to counter potential threats that could impact the security of Israel and neighboring nations. Simultaneously, Iran's refusal to engage in talks with the U.S. signals a further deterioration in diplomatic relations, which could have serious implications for regional stability.

Amid rising tensions, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has intensified its threats, targeting major tech companies like Amazon and Oracle.
