Charity Foundation Director Faces Suspicion

According to Главком: Police in the Khmelnytskyi region have formally notified the head of a charitable foundation that he is a suspect in a case involving the embezzlement of more than one million hryvnias in donations meant for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He has been placed under house arrest as a preventive measure. The investigation revealed that the individual misappropriated 700,000 hryvnias collected into a separate bank account established in 2024 specifically to fund the purchase of vehicles for the military.

Actions and Consequences

According to the information, the suspect persuaded two service members to transfer him an additional 400,000 hryvnias for buying a car. However, the soldiers never received the vehicle, which was essential for carrying out their combat and logistical duties. This case highlights the severe impact such fraud has on military readiness and morale during wartime.

"The suspect collected 700,000 hryvnias into a separate bank account for purchasing vehicles. Subsequently, under the same pretext, the man convinced two more servicemen to transfer him 400,000 hryvnias. The funds obtained in this manner were spent by the perpetrator for his own needs," stated the National Police.

The formal suspicion was announced under Part 3 of Article 201-2 and Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In a related development in Kyiv, two fraudsters who created fake accounts to allegedly raise funds for the Armed Forces will face trial. Indictments have already been sent to court, and they face up to eight years in prison.

This incident underscores the critical need for transparency and oversight of charitable organizations, especially during war when every hryvnia raised for military support is vital. As abuses of trust can have severe consequences for troops, the public must remain vigilant regarding fundraising campaigns and their organizers. Simultaneously, law enforcement continues its active fight against fraud in this sector, a crucial step in protecting the interests of both donors and aid recipients.
