Kyiv Resident Loses Apartment in Missile Strike, Searches Rubble for Beloved Cat
July 6 Attack on Kyiv
According to Главком: During the night of July 6, a Russian assault struck Kyiv, leaving a resident of the Podilskyi district homeless. The man, who had lived on the ninth floor of the building for roughly 25 years, saw his home destroyed by a Russian missile. Trapped beneath the debris of his apartment is his British Shorthair cat, a companion of 10 years.
The attack involved ballistic missiles, and as of the morning of July 6, authorities reported 11 fatalities. Rescue teams continue searching for survivors, including a neighbor named Yuriy, who is believed to have been home at the time of the strike. Destruction and damage were recorded across four districts of Kyiv, with the Podilskyi district suffering the most severe impact.
Memories and Heartache
The man who lost his apartment recounted the harrowing moments of that evening:
“I left for work about 15 to 20 minutes earlier. I work at a bread factory and I left ahead of schedule. I had sent my wife to visit Warsaw yesterday. I put her on the bus, came back, and went to sleep. Normally, I head to the factory at 2 a.m., but for some reason I woke up earlier. The cat started getting restless. I got up, had some coffee, and left. Before I even reached the factory, I got a call: ‘Your apartment is gone.’”
Following the destruction, he said: 'There’s nothing left-everything is buried.' He is also deeply worried about his cat, which tends to hide under the bathtub during explosions: 'We don’t care about the documents left behind. I feel sorry for the cat, that’s all. The cat is the main thing for me. I’ll find somewhere to live.'
