Kyiv Region Authorities Clarify Cause of Cinematographer's Death, Ruling Out Starvation
Death of Pavlo Loiko
According to Главком: The Kyiv Regional Military Administration has corrected earlier reports concerning the death of 82-year-old cinematographer Pavlo Loiko. Following an autopsy on February 5, medical examiners determined the cause of death was chronic ischemic heart disease, finding no evidence of hypothermia or malnutrition. This clarification comes amid heightened public concern for vulnerable citizens during Ukraine's ongoing energy crisis.
Pavlo Loiko, known for his work at the O. Dovzhenko Film Studio and his involvement in the film 'The Lost Letter,' passed away in his own home, which is connected to the gas grid and has a stove for heating. His pension was being paid on time, eliminating the possibility of financial hardship for the family.
Social Support System
His widow, Lidiia Loiko, has been registered for social services as a single elderly person. Pavlo Loiko's burial will be funded by the local budget. The Kyiv region operates a comprehensive support system for the population during the energy sector emergency, providing social services to approximately 46,000 single and vulnerable individuals. Daily, 10,039 people with limited mobility receive in-home care services under the supervision of territorial centers and social service providers.
This case highlights the critical importance of social support for isolated and at-risk individuals, particularly during periods of economic strain. The functioning social service network in the Kyiv region demonstrates local authorities' efforts to deliver necessary aid in crisis situations, which could serve as a model for other Ukrainian regions. The state-funded burial further underscores the government's responsibility toward its citizens in difficult times.
