Kyivstar launches satellite communication for regular smartphones: how it will work

According to hvylya.net: The company 'Kyivstar' has announced that soon Ukrainians will have the opportunity to use the new satellite communication Starlink Direct to Cell. Now phones will be able to connect to satellites without any additional equipment, just through 4G.

This service will be ideal for places where there is no signal from mobile operators. Smartphones will be able to connect to Starlink satellites, which are in low Earth orbit, without any devices.

'The satellites themselves are becoming mobile stations in space,' the company explained.

According to 'Kyivstar', the Starlink satellite constellation consists of over 600 modern devices, which orbit at an altitude of 340-360 km above the Earth. The main condition is the absence of obstacles for communication with the satellites.

This new technology will be very useful in remote areas, during bad weather, or in areas without mobile operator signal. Starlink Direct to Cell will be an additional option that complements the existing service from Kyivstar but will not replace it.
