China on peaceful reunification with Taiwan: what awaits the island and whose position has changed
China has expressed readiness for 'peaceful reunification' with Taiwan, but it has firmly warned against any attempts by the island to declare independence. The spokesperson for Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China, Zhu Fenglian, noted that China will do everything possible for peaceful reconciliation but will not tolerate separatist activities from Taiwan.
'We are ready to create a broad space for peaceful reunification, showing maximum sincerity and making all efforts for the peaceful reunification of Taiwan with mainland China,' said Zhu Fenglian. However, immediately after these words, she sharply changed her tone: 'At the same time, we will leave no room for separatist activities of so-called Taiwan independence supporters.'
Taiwan has its own government, army, currency, and democratic governance system, but China considers it a 'rebellious province' and does not rule out the use of military force to establish control over it. In recent years, China has intensified military and political pressure on Taiwan, regularly conducting large-scale military exercises around the island.
The USA is Taiwan's main foreign partner and supplies it with weapons for self-defense in case of a Chinese attack. However, some Taiwanese experts express concern over the position of President Trump's administration, fearing that he may offer concessions to Beijing at Taiwan's expense in exchange for a large trade deal with China.
The Ukrainian people are very interested in events in Taiwan and are observing the relations between the island and China. We hope for the preservation of peace and stability in the region and the resolution of relations through dialogue and negotiations.
