Book Arsenal Festival Launches in Kyiv
According to Зеленський: The 14th International Book Arsenal Festival has opened in Kyiv today, taking place amid the full-scale invasion. Its focus theme is 'Carrying Your Freedom.' The festival is curated by Ukrainian human rights advocate and former prisoner of war Maksym Butkevych, while the program is curated by Andriy Lyubka, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This year’s edition brings together over 150 participants and features 240 planned events. Olesia Ostrovska-Liuta, Director General of the Mystetskyi Arsenal State Enterprise, and Yuliya Kozlovets, Director of the 14th Arsenal, have also contributed to organizing the festival. President’s Talks and Book Selections
Meanwhile, the President of Ukraine held talks with the Prime Minister of Sweden in Uppsala. During the meeting, a new support package for Ukraine was finalized, along with agreements on the supply of Gripen aircraft. The President also selected several books for himself: '1913: The Summer of the Century' and 'Time for Dignity: Justice in an Unjust World.' The latter was a gift from Ulf Kristersson. Additionally, the President took several books from the festival: 'Hemingway Knows Nothing' by Artur Dron, 'The Power Triangle: Balancing a New World Order' by Alexander Stubb, and 'Narratives of Mass Destruction: Tactics and Strategies of Information Warfare' by Artem Zakharchenko. These publications underscore the relevance of literature in shaping public opinion and understanding modern challenges.
The Book Arsenal Festival continues its legacy despite difficult circumstances, remaining a vital platform for discussions on freedom, dignity, and culture in Ukraine. It plays a key role in sustaining Ukraine’s cultural life during the war, offering authors and readers a space to address pressing socio-political issues. The President’s participation reflects the leadership’s focus on cultural initiatives as a cornerstone of national identity and resilience. This event stands as a symbol of the unyielding Ukrainian spirit and the pursuit of freedom, especially poignant amid the ongoing conflict.
