Who does not need to prove the availability of funds at the border with Poland in 2026
During entry to Poland, foreigners, including Ukrainian citizens, may face a check of financial capability. This requirement is also in effect in 2026, however, exceptions have been made for certain categories of Ukrainians. This is reported by Visit Ukraine.
Crossing the border with Poland: who does not need to confirm funds
Polish legislation stipulates that a foreigner must prove the availability of money to cover living costs and return from the country. At the same time, border guards are not supposed to require proof of finances from citizens who have a specific status or a clearly declared purpose of the trip.
Exempt from the obligation to show funds are:
-
foreigners whose stay is financed by Polish state or public institutions
-
holders of repatriation visas
-
holders of work visas
-
persons with temporary protection status
-
holders of national visa type D for family reunification
-
persons who have a residence card
-
foreigners entering to provide humanitarian aid or participate in rescue operations
In such cases, it is sufficient to confirm the relevant document or the purpose of the trip.

Crossing the border with Poland: how much money you need to have in 2026
Ukrainians who do not fall under exceptions must be prepared to confirm a minimum amount of funds. Requirements are set by the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and depend on the duration of the stay.
The minimum amounts are:
-
300 zlotys – if the trip lasts up to 4 days inclusive
-
75 zlotys for each day – if the stay exceeds 4 days
It is not necessary to have money specifically in zlotys. Cash in another currency is allowed, but at the equivalent of the established amounts. These rules apply to tourist, private, and other short-term trips without a special status.
