IDPs from Luhansk received explanations regarding housing and assistance: what will change
According to Міністерство соц. політики: Tetyana Kirienko, Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, visited a shelter for internally displaced persons, where she discussed the pressing needs of internally displaced persons with representatives of communities and specialists from the social protection authorities of Luhansk.
During the meeting, programs for supporting IDPs and living conditions in temporary accommodation were discussed. Communities raised issues regarding living conditions, accessibility for people with disabilities, and the possibility of staying in shelters with pets.
“The dialogue between the central authorities and local workers must be the priority now. It is during such communication that we discuss all problematic issues and algorithms that need to be improved. It is also important that relocated communities continue to take care of their people who fled from the war,” emphasized Tetyana Kirienko.
During her visit, Tetyana Kirienko also familiarized herself with the work of the shelter for IDPs managed by the Luhansk Regional Council. The shelter provides a wide range of services to residents, including medical, social, and humanitarian assistance, but operates without government compensation for the cost of accommodation. Currently, 375 internally displaced persons live in the shelter, actively participating in workshops and services provided at the facility.
The meeting addressed issues related to existing support programs for internally displaced persons and living conditions in temporary accommodation for IDPs from the mentioned cities. It is important for communities that host IDPs to have the opportunity to interact with central government bodies and continue to support people who have fled from the war.
