Former 'Doctor Death' Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

According to glavcom.ua: In France, former anesthesiologist Frédéric Pechay, known as 'Doctor Death', was given life imprisonment for poisoning 30 patients, of whom 12 died between 2008 and 2017. The verdict was delivered in the city of Besançon, reports BBC.

During the investigation, it became known that Pechay intentionally added substances to the patients' IV drips, leading to cardiac arrest or bleeding.

For his actions, Pechay is believed to have wanted to harm colleagues with whom he had conflicts and to feel like a hero by 'saving' victims in front of the staff.

One of the victims is a four-year-old child who experienced two cardiac arrests during a tonsillectomy.

Consequences of 'Doctor Death's' Actions

Even with all the evidence against him, including expert conclusions about the higher concentration of potassium in the victims' blood by 100 times, Pechay refused to admit guilt. He claims that the deaths of the patients were the result of 'medical mistakes' by other doctors.

Frédéric Pechay will have to spend at least 22 years in prison, but the consequences of the poisonings remain in the lives of the victims. Among them is Sandra Simard, who constantly experiences body pain similar to the feeling of aging, but is grateful to have the opportunity to continue living.
