Alleged Fraudulent Disability Certification Scheme

According to Главком: On February 27, doctors in the Vinnytsia region suspected of fraudulently certifying disabilities were released on bail. The suspects, a 47-year-old neurologist and her 27-year-old son, an orthopedic traumatologist, both work at the Lityn Central District Hospital. Bail for the younger doctor was set at 266,000 hryvnias, while his mother, who is currently in intensive care, did not post bail.

Law enforcement uncovered the alleged scheme on February 26. According to the investigation, the events took place in the autumn of 2025. The suspects are accused of offering to certify a third-degree disability for a period of one year in exchange for $3,000. To make the certification appear legitimate, they allegedly arranged for fake inpatient treatment and a series of examinations. This case highlights ongoing challenges with corruption in certain segments of the Ukrainian healthcare system.

Defense and Public Reaction

The woman's lawyer, Mykhailo Lytvyniuk, stated that his client does not admit guilt. He claims she neither demanded nor received any money. Police investigators have served both doctors with suspicion notices in connection with these events, sparking significant public outcry.

This case reflects serious systemic issues in healthcare related to potential abuse and corrupt practices that can directly impact patient welfare. The exposure of such schemes could serve as a catalyst for deeper reforms in the medical sector and stricter oversight of medical institutions. The public expects a transparent investigation and appropriate punishment for those who break the law, thereby endangering people's lives and health.
