According to ХВИЛЯ: Natalia Ptukha, a forecaster at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, has issued a preliminary forecast indicating that the summer of 2026 is likely to be warmer than the climatic norm. In her analysis, Ptukha also addressed short-term weather prospects for the end of March 2024.

Meteorologists estimate a 40 percent probability of an El Niño phenomenon developing in 2024, which could significantly influence weather patterns in Ukraine. This forecast comes as global temperatures in January 2024 ranked as the fifth warmest on record. However, in Ukraine, both January and February 2024 were exceptionally cold, highlighting the complex and variable nature of regional climate impacts.

Spring 2024 Expectations

On Friday, March 20, 2024, a northern anticyclone is expected to arrive, reducing cloud cover and raising daytime temperatures by 1-2 degrees Celsius with no significant precipitation. Natalia Ptukha remarked on the global climate contrasts:

'Generally speaking, there is usually a certain balance in Earth's processes. For instance, this past January was the fifth warmest globally in recorded history, whereas here in Ukraine, it was very cold, as was February.' Natalia Ptukha

Consequently, the synoptic situation in Ukraine remains complex, marked by sharp contrasts in temperature regimes that require attention from both the public and relevant authorities.
