Lithuania Provides Ukraine with RBS-70 Missiles and Generators in New Aid Package
Lithuanian Military and Energy Aid to Ukraine
According to Главком: On February 25, 2026, Lithuanian Minister of National Defence, Robertas Kaunas, announced a new military aid package for Ukraine. This package includes 30 laser-guided missiles for the Swedish-made RBS-70 man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS), which can strike targets at distances of 7-9 km and altitudes of 4-5 km. This advanced weaponry is crucial for Ukraine's ongoing defense against aerial threats, including drones and low-flying aircraft.
In a separate but concurrent delivery between January and February 2026, Lithuania also supplied Ukraine with 90 generators, valued at over 2 million euros, to help address critical energy infrastructure needs. The country is preparing further deliveries of essential equipment, including:
- diesel generators
- transformers
- electric motors
"This is critically necessary weaponry for Ukraine right now, which will help strengthen its air defense," stated Robertas Kaunas.
In a related diplomatic move, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has stripped former Ukrainian Education Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk of the Order of the Grand Duke Gediminas. Tabachnyk originally received the award in 1996 while serving as head of administration for President Leonid Kuchma. Lithuania's support for Ukraine is set to remain a key priority into 2027, when the country will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Strategic Importance of the Assistance
This announcement underscores Lithuania's steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine amidst the prolonged conflict. The provision of modern air-defense weaponry and vital energy equipment demonstrates a dual focus on bolstering both Ukraine's immediate military resilience and its civilian infrastructure stability. As a frontline NATO and EU state, Lithuania's continued aid reflects a deep strategic partnership with Kyiv, aimed at countering shared security challenges in the region.
