Saif al-Islam Gaddafi Released in Lebanon: Why He Was Held for 10 Years
Gaddafi's son was kidnapped in 2015 by militants in Syria, after which he was expelled from the country. In 2011, following his father's death, he was charged in Lebanon with concealing information about the fate of Shia Muslim cleric Musa al-Sadr, who disappeared along with his companions in 1978.
According to glavcom.ua: The youngest son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Hannibal Gaddafi, has been released after nearly a decade of imprisonment without trial in Lebanon over the disappearance of a Shia Muslim cleric. This information was reported by 'Glaсkom' citing Reuters.
Last month, a court in Lebanon decided to release Hannibal Gaddafi and reduce his bail from $11 million to about $900,000. The Government of National Unity of Libya expressed gratitude to the President of Lebanon and the Speaker of Parliament for their cooperation, which helped achieve Gaddafi's release.
Hannibal Gaddafi was released after a long imprisonment without trial in Lebanon in connection with the mysterious disappearance of a Shia Muslim cleric. His abduction in 2015 led to his expulsion from the country, and ten years later the court decided to release him by reducing his bail. The Government of Libya expressed its gratitude for the cooperation that helped in this matter.
