Negotiations for the stable operation of the plant

Grossi noted that the IAEA is negotiating with Russia and Ukraine to ensure the stable operation of the plant.

It should be recalled that the absence of external power supply to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, occupied by the Russians, has become a record failure and raised serious concerns about the safety of the largest NPP in Europe.

Serious threat to safety

The last power line was disconnected on Tuesday at 16:56 from the Russian side. Currently, the plant is operating thanks to emergency diesel generators, which support cooling and safety systems. The IAEA has already termed the situation as

"deeply concerning."

As reported, the Zaporizhzhia NPP occupied by Russian invaders has been out of contact with the Ukrainian energy system for a week. The safety systems are powered by backup diesel generators. The absence of external power supply to the Zaporizhzhia NPP from the Ukrainian energy system poses significant threats to nuclear and radiation safety.

Radiation accident risks due to blackout

Furthermore, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated at the UN General Assembly about the risks of a radiation accident, particularly due to Russia’s occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The head of state emphasized that the blackout at the Zaporizhzhia NPP has been going on for a week now. According to him, this has never happened before.

The conflict at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has sparked serious outrage and concerns regarding potential consequences for the safety of the nuclear facility and the risks of a radiation accident. At the same time, the IAEA and the Ukrainian authorities are actively collaborating with Russia to restore stable operation of the plant and ensure power supply.
