Marta Kostyuk Dismisses False Claims About Donating All Madrid Prize Money to Ukraine’s Armed Forces
Marta Kostyuk Refutes Misleading Reports
According to Главком: Ukrainian tennis star Marta Kostyuk has denied circulating rumors that she pledged her entire Madrid tournament winnings-over €1 million-to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. She clarified that she never made such statements and emphasized that she intentionally keeps her charitable contributions private. Kostyuk secured the WTA 1000 title in Madrid, earning more than €1 million.
In the final match, Kostyuk defeated Russian opponent Mirra Andreeva with a score of 6:3, 7:5. This victory marked her second consecutive WTA tournament win, following her title in Rouen, France, where she overcame fellow Ukrainian Veronika Podrez. Her current winning streak on the WTA tour now stands at 11 matches.
“In recent days, media and social networks have spread claims that I plan to donate all my Madrid prize money to the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” Kostyuk stated. She stressed that she never made such an announcement and urged journalists and social media users to verify information before sharing it. Kostyuk noted that much of her support has always remained out of the public eye, and she intends to keep it that way.
Promoting Tennis in Ukraine
Beyond her on-court success, Kostyuk is actively involved in advancing tennis in Ukraine. Through initiatives by her foundation, over 13,000 schoolchildren have gained access to tennis programs.
“For me, this is an important mission-to promote tennis, create new opportunities for young people, and support Ukraine through long-term educational and sports projects,” she emphasized.
This situation highlights the need to verify information, especially when it concerns charity and support for the military. Amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, false claims can damage an individual’s reputation and erode trust in aid-focused initiatives. At the same time, Kostyuk’s active efforts to popularize tennis among youth reflect her commitment to driving positive societal change and fostering sports development in Ukraine.
While Kostyuk's recent victory in Madrid has garnered significant attention, it is also essential to recognize her historic achievement for Ukrainian tennis.
