City of Burshtyn Targeted

According to Главком: A massive, combined assault struck the city of Burshtyn in western Ukraine's Prykarpattia region on February 7th. The attack severely damaged the Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant (TPP), rendering it inoperable and cutting off the city's water supply and heating. This assault on critical infrastructure has left local residents without essential utilities. The broader aerial attack on the Prykarpattia region lasted nearly five hours, with Russian forces employing Kalibr cruise missiles, Shahed drones, and other weaponry.

As of 1:00 PM on February 7th, Burshtyn remained without heat and running water. While the city's civilian infrastructure was not directly damaged, the attack had severe knock-on effects. The assault was part of a wider wave of strikes across Ukraine that day, highlighting the ongoing threat to the country's energy grid.

  • In the Kyiv region, firefighters were still battling a blaze at a warehouse hit by drones into the morning of the 8th.
  • A critical infrastructure facility was damaged in the Volyn region.
  • In the Rivne region, a residential building was struck, resulting in one man's death.

Furthermore, the Ivano-Frankivsk region was targeted by cruise missiles and drones, with a series of secondary explosions reported in Burshtyn. Explosions also rocked Vinnytsia, damaging an educational institution. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a municipal enterprise sustained damage, with buildings, trolleybuses, and other vehicles destroyed. The Khmelnytskyi region suffered from a missile and drone attack that left one man wounded.

The damage from the missile strikes is very serious. The station is currently at zero output. What happens next, nobody yet knows.

Impact on the Civilian Population

The February 7th attacks demonstrate an escalation of the conflict and its detrimental impact on civilian life in Ukraine. The loss of basic utilities like water and heating illustrates the profound challenges communities face in wartime. Additionally, the strikes on infrastructure in other regions emphasize the scale of the threat Ukraine confronts, demanding continued efforts to ensure security and restore damaged facilities. This situation risks exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region if conditions do not improve in the near future.
