Microsoft Names Professions That AI Can Replace: Who is at Risk
The team analyzed anonymous conversations of users with the Microsoft Bing Copilot chatbot and concluded that AI is most often used for tasks related to providing information, writing texts, training, and consulting. Based on this data, an 'AI applicability rating' was created, which quantitatively determines the vulnerability of each profession.
Researchers from Microsoft attempted to determine which professions are the most and least vulnerable to replacement by generative artificial intelligence. The results, outlined in a yet-to-be-reviewed scientific paper, are discouraging for those who enjoy the benefits of comfortable office work, writes Futurism, as reported by 'Glavkom'.
Most and Least Vulnerable Professions
- translators;
- historians;
- sales representatives;
- writers;
- customer support operators.
At the same time, the most secure professions from automation are those related to physical labor:
- heavy equipment operators;
- cleaners;
- roofers;
- masseurs;
- dishwashers.
The main conclusion is that low-paid manual labor is much less vulnerable than work that corresponds to the 'expertise' of large language models.
However, these results should be taken with a certain degree of skepticism. Firstly, Microsoft has huge investments in the field of AI, which may prompt researchers to exaggerate the capabilities of the technology.
The analysis conducted by Microsoft researchers showed which professions are most and least vulnerable to automation. It turned out that jobs requiring physical effort are less susceptible to replacement by AI than those where working with texts and information is key.
