Internal Affairs Minister Addresses Mobilization Inquiry for Vladimir Petroff

According to Главком: Internal Affairs Minister Ihor Klymenko has provided clarification in the Verkhovna Rada regarding the potential mobilization of television host Vladimir Petroff. The Ministry for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine has initiated an official investigation following information that Petroff's exemption from mobilization was allegedly secured through a state institution where he was employed. It is known that Petroff resigned from his position of his own accord.

During his address to parliament, Ihor Klymenko noted that the organization of the mobilization process does not fall under the authority of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He emphasized that the police act solely upon requests from Territorial Recruitment Centers (TRCs) and other authorized bodies.

“In accordance with the law, the National Police acts exclusively on the basis, within the powers, and in the manner defined by the Constitution and laws of Ukraine. The issue of the police's role and powers in mobilization measures is clearly regulated. The National Police, exclusively upon request from a TRC, participates in notifying those liable for military service and reservists, together with TRC military personnel, carries out administrative detention if necessary, and delivers evaders directly to recruitment centers,” stated Minister Ihor Klymenko.

This case highlights ongoing public scrutiny of Ukraine's mobilization system as the country continues its defense against Russia's full-scale invasion. MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak reported that media figures Vladimir Petroff and Serhiy Ivanov had been exempted from mobilization since July 2025. According to him, Petroff's exemption came from the state institution, the National Military Memorial Cemetery, where he was registered as a specialist in the communications and information technology department. The head of the Ministry for Veterans Affairs, Natalia Kalmykova, confirmed the start of the inspection in the Verkhovna Rada, and the State Administration of the National Military Memorial Cemetery confirmed that Petroff worked there as a leading specialist.
