Ukraine Deploys 'Shvidun' Interceptor Drone, Claiming 100 Iranian 'Shahed' UAVs Destroyed

Українські сили запустили новий дрон для захисту повітряного простору, стверджуючи, що знищили велику кількість іранських безпілотників.

Ukraine's New 'Shvidun' Unmanned Aerial System

According to Главком: The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has officially commissioned the 'Shvidun' unmanned aerial complex, a system specifically engineered to neutralize hostile drones. This domestically produced platform is already actively defending Ukrainian airspace within the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

The 'Shvidun' complex is designed to target and destroy various types of enemy unmanned aerial vehicles, including attack drones like:

  • Shahed-136
  • 'Geran' (Geranium)
  • 'Gerbera'

as well as reconnaissance drones such as:

  • Zala
  • Supercam
  • 'Skat'

The drone weighs approximately 8 kg and has a wingspan of nearly 2 meters. It is capable of operating at altitudes up to 6 km and can reach speeds exceeding 250 km/h. With an operational radius of over 70 km, it provides substantial area coverage for defense. According to the Defense Ministry, the drone can remain airborne for more than two hours.

The AFU has already successfully employed the 'Shvidun' to eliminate around one hundred of the aggressor's drones.

"The first units are already operational, defending Ukrainian cities. Currently, the 'Shvidun' UAS boasts one of the highest kill ratios against enemy 'Shahed' drones among Ukrainian-made interceptor UAVs," noted Defense Ministry representatives.

In a related development, the Defense Ministry has also approved for service the Ukrainian-made JEDI Shahed Hunter interceptor drone. Innovative technological solutions incorporated into the 'Shvidun's' design minimize vibrations at high speeds, enabling the transmission of clear imagery to its operator.

'The drone's operational radius exceeds 70 km. This is sufficient to provide air cover for any Ukrainian city,' emphasized the Defense Ministry.

The Significance and Future of 'Shvidun'

Consequently, the new 'Shvidun' unmanned complex has already proven its effectiveness in combat conditions, delivering reliable protection for Ukrainian cities against enemy drones.

The commissioning of the 'Shvidun' unmanned aerial system marks a significant step in strengthening Ukraine's defensive capabilities, particularly given the modern challenges posed by the widespread use of drones in military conflicts. As the war continues, such indigenous technologies are crucial for countering the persistent threat of Russian-launched Iranian-designed 'Shahed' drones. The deployment of systems like 'Shvidun' underscores Ukraine's commitment to developing its own defense technology, which may positively influence the country's international standing in the military sphere and enhance its air defense resilience.

As the Ukrainian military enhances its aerial defense capabilities, the introduction of the 'Shvidun' drone aligns with the recent approval of another advanced system. The JEDI Hunter drone has also been authorized for combat, showcasing the country's commitment to developing effective countermeasures against enemy UAVs. This concerted effort highlights the ongoing advancements in Ukraine's defense technology, ensuring a robust response to aerial threats.
