Trump proposes a peace deal: why Ukraine insists on a ceasefire first

The U.S. president's proposal for a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine can be discussed, however, Ukraine believes that a ceasefire must come first as a precondition for starting diplomatic negotiations. An advisor to the head of the president's office supported this position during a TV marathon, emphasizing that 'first a ceasefire, and then everything else.' Ukraine seeks to consolidate the line of fire and stop hostilities before considering the possibility of a peace deal. President Zelensky presented an alternative course of action in case of failure at the trilateral meeting or lack of results, namely demanding stronger sanctions against Russia.
