Міжнародний валютний фонд чинить тиск на Україну: можливе підвищення тарифів на комунальні послуги після скасування мораторію.

IMF pressure on Ukraine regarding utility tariffs

According to ХВИЛЯ: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is exerting pressure on Ukraine to reconsider utility tariffs, which may rise after the moratorium on price increases ends. Currently, a moratorium on tariff increases for the population is in place during martial law, which, however, does not exclude the possibility of changes in the future.

So far, the price of gas for consumers of the 'Naftogaz' company remains unchanged at 7.96 hryvnias per cubic meter until April 2026. The cost of electricity will be 4.32 hryvnias per kilowatt-hour from June 2024, and for owners of two-zone meters at night (from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM) – 2.16 hryvnias per kilowatt-hour. Heating tariffs in Kyiv are 1,654.41 hryvnias per gigacalorie, while in Odesa they are 1,813 hryvnias per gigacalorie.

Expert opinion and social consequences

Currently, no decision has been made regarding tariff increases, but experts note that the situation may change. Andriy Zupanin expressed concern about the potential increase, stating:

“It seems that we are being pressed. Everyone needs to understand this. We will be pressed, meaning we will give up the special prices on heating, gas, and heating for the population.” - Andriy Zupanin

This situation raises concern among the population, as tariff increases may significantly affect the financial situation of Ukrainians amid the current economic crisis.

Reviewing utility tariffs in Ukraine is an important issue in the context of the country's economic stability, especially during the war. In conditions of limited financial resources and rising energy costs, changes in tariffs could pose both an economic and social challenge for the population. The situation requires careful monitoring by the government to ensure a balance between fulfilling obligations to international creditors and supporting the population in difficult conditions. As tariff increases may lead to even greater financial burdens on citizens, it is important to consider their needs and capabilities.
