According to glavcom.ua: In Khmelnytskyi, an investigation is ongoing regarding the mass death of fish in the Ploska River, which occurred on August 22. According to the press service of the Khmelnytskyi regional prosecutor's office, a criminal proceeding is being conducted due to violations of water body protection rules. Currently, the number of dead fish has exceeded 33 thousand, and the damages are estimated at 53.5 million hryvnias.

Expertises and Government Reaction

To study the causes and circumstances of the incident, 10 inspections have been conducted, and expert evaluations are still ongoing. Deputy Mayor Mykola Vavryshchuk expressed suspicion regarding the discharge of chemical substances into the river. Samples of water have already been taken for analysis, and results of laboratory tests are awaited.

“We are confident that this is the discharge of some chemicals, as we take samples weekly... A few days ago, the results indicated that the condition of the river was not poor; on the contrary, it was quite good,” noted Mykola Vavryshchuk.

Recently, a similar situation was observed in Dnipropetrovsk region, where there was also a mass death of fish. Local residents are concerned about this alarming trend, as they collected over five tons of dead fish in just one day.

In Khmelnytskyi, an investigation into the death of fish in the Ploska River is ongoing, with efforts to determine the causes of this extraordinary phenomenon. Government structures have already taken up the investigation and expertises, but so far there are no final conclusions. Similar incidents occurring in different regions of Ukraine increase public outrage and prompt the authorities to take necessary measures to prevent such mass fish deaths.
