NABU requests UAH 2.9 billion for 2026: why the bureau will receive less funding
Funding of NABU for 2026
According to Главком: The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has identified its budget funding needs for 2026 at UAH 2.9 billion. However, according to the data released, the bureau will receive less funding, as the maximum expenditure limit for the next year is UAH 2.5 billion. This raises concerns about NABU's ability to perform its functions in the fight against corruption.
Dynamics of NABU funding
Over the past six years, expenditures on NABU have steadily increased:
- 2020 - UAH 0.92 billion
- 2021 - UAH 1.07 billion
- 2022 - UAH 1.23 billion
- 2023 - UAH 1.26 billion
- 2024 - UAH 1.88 billion
- 2025 - UAH 2.18 billion
This indicates a gradual increase in funding, which, however, does not meet the bureau's needs for 2026.
NABU's funding in 2024 reached UAH 1.88 billion, while in 2025 this amount increased to UAH 2.18 billion. During the reporting for 2024, NABU reported available reimbursements amounting to UAH 685.252 million, as well as received amounts in the first half of 2024 - UAH 209.302 million, in the second half - UAH 614.057 million.
Salaries of NABU employees range from UAH 70,000 to UAH 250,000 per month, while the salary of the bureau's director, Serhiy Kryvonos, exceeds UAH 180,000 per month. In light of these facts, the reduction in planned funding for 2026 may pose a serious challenge to ensuring the effectiveness of NABU's work, which continues to fight against corruption in Ukraine.
The situation with NABU's budget funding for 2026 causes concern among experts and the public, as the reduction in funds may negatively affect the bureau's activities in combating corruption. - Experts
In the context of rising costs for maintaining the institution, as well as the need to ensure high efficiency of investigations, it is important for the state to provide adequate financial resources to support anti-corruption bodies. This may also impact the overall progress in reforming the anti-corruption system in Ukraine.
