NBU Issues Coin Featuring Archangel Michael: Details of Unique Design

According to glavcom.ua: At the National Museum in Lviv named after Andrey Sheptytsky, as part of the project 'Archangel Michael - Angel of Victory', a new silver commemorative coin of the National Bank of Ukraine with a face value of 10 hryvnias was presented. This release is part of the series 'Spiritual Treasures of Ukraine' and is dedicated to the Archistrategos Michael - one of the most revered heavenly patrons of the Ukrainian people. This was reported by 'Glavcom' referencing the NBU.

One of the important moments of the coin release is the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the founding of the National Museum in Lviv and the 160th anniversary of the birth of its founder - Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky, emphasized the head of the numismatic products and cash operations department of the NBU, Yevhen Kondratenko.

“We aimed for our new coin to become another sign of the spiritual strength of Ukrainians, a symbol of heavenly patronage and faith in victory, reminding us of the strength of spirit, of the light that guides Ukrainians through the toughest challenges,” said the NBU representative.

Artistic Design of the Coin and Its Characteristics

The basis for the artistic design of the coin is the image of Archistrategos Michael from the deacon's gates of the Zhovkva iconostasis, created by Ivan Rutkovych. The obverse of the coin shows the royal gates of the Zhovkva iconostasis with a prayer to Archangel Michael and a stylized arch symbolizing the victory of light over darkness. The reverse features the image of Archangel Michael from the Zhovkva iconostasis, executed using gilding and color printing with a floral baroque ornament.

The coin is made of silver 999 purity and weighs 31.1 g. Sales are scheduled to begin on November 11, 2025, and will be available on the NBU's numismatic product online store and through banking distributors.

Feast of Archistrategos Michael

On November 8, believers celebrate the Feast of Archistrategos Michael - one of the most revered heavenly patrons, the commander of the heavenly host, and a symbol of victory of good over evil. On this day, festive services take place in churches, and believers appeal to the saint with prayers for peace, health, and protection of the family.

A new commemorative coin was presented in Lviv as part of the 'Archangel Michael - Angel of Victory' project, which became a symbol of the spiritual strength of Ukrainians and reminds of the victory of light over darkness. The coin has a special artistic design and high purity of silver, produced to the highest quality standards. The issuance of the coin is timed to the anniversary of the National Museum in Lviv and honors the museum founder, Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky.
