New Commemorative Coin Honors 'Palianytsia' Drone

According to НБУ: The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) will issue a new commemorative coin dedicated to the domestically produced 'Palianytsia' drone missile. Named 'Ukrainian Cotton. Palianytsia Drone Missile,' the coin will have a face value of 5 hryvnias and a mintage of up to 75,000 pieces. It will officially enter circulation on January 30, 2026, with sales beginning in February 2026 via the NBU's online store and authorized distributor banks. This release is part of a series honoring Ukraine's defense industry achievements.

Capabilities of the 'Palianytsia' Drone Missile

The 'Palianytsia' is Ukraine's first domestically developed long-range weapon system equipped with a turbojet engine. Designed for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, it delivers high-precision strikes against strategic targets deep behind enemy lines. The drone missile can hit objectives up to 650 km away and is capable of evading air defense systems by flying at a low altitude ranging from 15 to 500 meters. Its maximum speed reaches 900 km/h.

The coin's design was created by artists Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk, and Serhii Kharuk, with sculptor Volodymyr Atamanchuk. This coin is intended to symbolize national pride and innovation within Ukraine's defense sector.

The issuance of the 'Palianytsia' commemorative coin underscores the significance of Ukrainian advancements in defense and technology, particularly in the context of contemporary security challenges.

This initiative also aims to raise public awareness of the country's achievements in military technology, which play a crucial role in national security. The coin may serve not only as a collector's item but also as a symbol of support for the Ukrainian armed forces in their struggle to defend the nation's independence and territorial integrity.
