Ukraine to receive 25 Patriot systems: Zelensky spoke about the contract with the USA

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the preparation of a contract for the supply of 25 Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine from the United States. He noted that this is an important story that requires significant efforts, but is being laid down as a long-term and reliable solution to ensure the country's security.

'In coordination with the relevant U.S. services, we have built discussions with defense companies regarding air defense, preparing a contract for 25 Patriot systems. These are 25 systems that are necessary. We spent a lot of time negotiating with companies, discussing in the White House, and personally with the President. This is a request from our army, from the Air Force, specifically from air defense,' - Zelensky said.

The leader of Ukraine also emphasized the importance of the work done with the government delegation that visited the USA to prepare meetings and discussions with American partners. In particular, there were talks about possible acquisition of Patriot systems from other NATO member countries.

Financial component and prospects of the agreement

Zelensky explained that the financing of the contract for the supply of Patriot systems has already been developed, including through the use of frozen Russian assets, and also requires the agreement of other funding sources. The President added that an important component of such an agreement is cooperation with other partner countries.

'For us, it is clear that the number one source of these funds is money from the use of frozen Russian assets. Today we have 28 bilateral security agreements with countries. Finding financing and making prepayments is a task, and within the framework of these agreements, it is feasible,' - he explained.

Zelensky also expressed his opinion on the situation with Tomahawks and a possible meeting with President of Russia Vladimir Putin in order to achieve a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
