Olena Yushchenko Makes Urgent Departure from Cyprus

According to Главком: Olena Yushchenko, the daughter-in-law of Ukraine's third president, Viktor Yushchenko, has left Cyprus in haste following an attack on the British 'Akrotiri' airbase. She made this decision out of a desire to protect her son from potential military escalation. This information was reported by 'Glavcom', citing her own Instagram post.

Olena Yushchenko, who is married to Andriy Yushchenko, left Ukraine with her son following Russia's full-scale invasion. Her husband remained in the country. The attack on the 'Akrotiri' base, located near Limassol, Cyprus, occurred overnight from Sunday to Monday. Preliminary reports indicate an Iranian-made missile struck the facility, triggering alarms and prompting military aircraft to scramble for an emergency takeoff. This incident highlights how regional conflicts can spill over into areas perceived as safe havens.

Family Safety as the Paramount Concern

Olena Yushchenko: 'Another very pivotal day in our lives. Yesterday we were packing suitcases again, suitcases with the bare essentials, and everything else was once again left behind in Cyprus.'

Olena explained her reasoning for leaving: 'Because I want my child to understand the word 'war' only when he reads about it in textbooks, as we once did, and I will be there to tell the story and correct something so he understands how important it all is. But for now, I want him to be a happy child who is not afraid of planes, explosions, and does not scream from fear.'

She expressed pain at the thought of not being able to return: 'How I cried yesterday... It hurts me even to think that I might not return to my paradise... I believe everything will be fine and we will return soon. But these days I want to be extra cautious and wait to see how events unfold.' She also expressed hope that 'the authorities and people of the country will be able to do everything possible to prevent war in Cyprus.'

Olena Yushchenko's exit from Cyprus underscores the rising regional tensions linked to military actions that threaten civilian safety. The attack on 'Akrotiri' demonstrates how international conflicts can directly impact lives, even far from the primary warzone. It also illustrates the difficult personal choices families must make when security becomes the overriding priority.
