Drone Assault on Sumy

According to Главком: In the early hours of April 4, 2026, the city of Sumy endured a three-hour assault by Russian drones, resulting in injuries to 13 civilians, including one child, and causing significant damage to infrastructure. The attack, which lasted for three hours, was carried out using unmanned aerial vehicles preliminarily identified as 'Gerbera' type.

Consequences of the Attack

According to Serhiy Kryvosheienko, head of the Sumy City Military Administration, two people were hospitalized as a result of the attack, while eight other residents received medical aid at the scene. Four impact sites were recorded, with the most severe damage sustained by a multi-story residential building in the Zarichnyi district, where a fire broke out on the upper floors. A strike was also recorded in a courtyard within the same district.

  • Roof damage and over 300 broken windows in four residential apartment blocks;
  • Damage to the gas infrastructure;
  • Disruption to the power supply.

In response to the incident, measures were taken to provide medical assistance to the victims, including the hospitalization of two individuals, and temporary accommodation was prepared for displaced residents. Emergency response teams were deployed to manage the aftermath, carrying out repair work and providing advisory support to residents.

"A mass strike by Russian UAVs, preliminarily of the 'Gerbera' type, over three hours this night has had severe consequences for Sumy. As of now, there are 13 injured, including 1 child," stated Serhiy Kryvosheienko.

This incident is part of a concerning pattern of drone warfare targeting Ukrainian cities, which places civilian populations at grave risk. The destruction of homes and utilities highlights the devastating human cost of the ongoing conflict. The damage to infrastructure and the injuries sustained once again underscore the consequences of military actions for non-combatants. Sumy's authorities continue to implement measures for recovery and to ensure resident safety, demonstrating the critical need for support to local administrations during such crises.

The recent drone attack in Sumy is not an isolated incident, as the city has faced multiple threats from unmanned aerial vehicles. Just days prior, a strike on a local shopping mall resulted in injuries to two individuals, underscoring the ongoing peril posed by drone warfare.
