Norway and Ukraine Launch Joint Drone Production With First Deliveries Expected by Summer
Joint Drone Production Between Ukraine and Norway
According to ХВИЛЯ: Norway and Ukraine have announced a new partnership to jointly manufacture mid-strike drones on Norwegian soil. The equipment produced under this initiative is intended for Ukraine’s Defense Forces. The agreement was signed by Norwegian Ambassador Lars Ragnar Aalerud Hansen and Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Serhii Boiev. The production plan includes thousands of drones designed by Ukrainian engineers.
Funding and Outlook
Norway is financing the project as part of its commitments under a $7 billion defense support package for 2026. Oslo is also expected to allocate over $1.5 billion this year specifically for purchasing Ukrainian-made weapons. The first batches of drones are scheduled to reach Ukrainian units before the start of summer.
The deal goes beyond drone manufacturing, also covering joint research and the development of new military equipment prototypes.
“I thank Norway for its consistent support and for focusing on the capabilities Ukraine critically needs. Projects involving joint production and guaranteed baseline drone supply for brigades directly strengthen our forces on the battlefield.”
Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov
Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Onshuus Sandvik also commented on the agreement, emphasizing that “this is cooperation that benefits both countries. It is an important and concrete step toward deepening Norwegian-Ukrainian collaboration, one that simultaneously strengthens Norway’s defense industry and gives Ukraine the opportunity to produce drones in safe conditions on Norwegian territory.”
This joint drone manufacturing venture represents a significant milestone in bolstering the defensive capabilities of both nations. It not only enhances Ukraine’s military strength but also drives technological and innovation advances within Norway’s defense sector-an important development for both countries amid evolving security challenges in Europe.
This new initiative comes on the heels of a broader strategic agreement between Norway and Ukraine, which not only focuses on drone production but also encompasses a comprehensive security declaration.
