Metro Service Altered After Kyiv Attack

According to Главком: Kyiv's metro system has implemented a new schedule and route changes in response to a Russian missile attack and a critical situation in the national power grid. The attack on the capital on the night of January 20th resulted in casualties and damage to infrastructure. Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachenko, urged residents to remain in shelters, stating:

'The Russians are attacking the capital. Please stay in shelters!' - Timur Tkachenko

The strike damaged non-residential buildings in the Dniprovskyi district and caused power outages on Kyiv's left bank. Amidst a nationwide energy crisis, critical social infrastructure is switching to backup power, which is also complicating the city's water supply situation.

Revised Metro Operating Schedule

The changes to the metro schedule are intended to ensure passenger safety and optimize transportation under the current strain. The primary service on the 'red' line now runs from 'Akademmistechko' to 'Arsenalna' stations with intervals of up to 5 minutes. Connection between 'Livoberezhna' and 'Arsenalna' is maintained by two special trains running every 20-25 minutes. Service on the 'green' line is now split into two sections:

• from 'Syrets' to 'Vydubychi' with 7-minute intervals;
• from 'Osokorky' to 'Chervonyi Khutir' with 10-minute intervals.

The blue line is operating on its normal schedule. These disruptions come as Kyiv, like much of Ukraine, faces sustained attacks on its energy infrastructure. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that at least one person was injured in the attack. The situation in Kyiv remains tense, and residents are urged to exercise caution and follow official instructions.

The attack and subsequent metro adjustments highlight the increasing security threats facing the capital, severely disrupting daily life for its residents. While authorities are attempting to adapt by implementing new safety measures, the overall situation remains unpredictable. Officials continue to recommend that residents stay vigilant and adhere to all directives from local administration.
