The Odessa Coast Has Turned Green: Ecologists Investigate the Causes of Mass Accumulation of Algae
According to glavcom.ua: The State Ecological Inspection of the Southwestern District has begun an investigation into the mass accumulation of algae on the coast of Odessa. Ecologists emphasize that during the surf, the algae are washed ashore, changing the color of the water to green, yellow, or brown hues. This is reported by 'Glavkom' referring to the inspection.
Usually, such phenomena are seasonal and related to the increase in water temperature; however, pollution discharges into the sea can exacerbate this process.
Laboratory Analysis and Further Actions
To determine the causes and scale of the water 'bloom,' inspectors took samples of seawater in areas where the algae formed a surface layer. Research is being conducted, and the results of the laboratory analyses will be published after the work is completed.
We remind you that as a result of the last storm on the coast of Odessa, tons of algae were washed ashore, which is now the focus of attention of ecologists and scientists.
