Negotiations on Ending the War: Key Positions of Ukraine and Russia
According to Студия Руслана Бизяева: Against the backdrop of the energy crisis in Ukraine, diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict have intensified. Negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the USA are scheduled for February 4-5. President Volodymyr Zelensky this week invited Vladimir Putin to talks in Kyiv, to which the Russian side had previously invited him to Moscow, but received a refusal.
The Ukrainian side has specified two non-negotiable points for the negotiations:
- the territorial issue regarding Donbas;
- joint use of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
“The situation regarding Donbas, the territorial issue, is, by the way, key in the negotiations in Abu Dhabi and the joint use of the Armed Forces” – Volodymyr Zelensky.
In response, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov emphasized that “regarding the Armed Forces, it has been under Russia’s control for already 2 years or a bit more.”
The situation is complicated by the energy crisis. After nearly a 12-hour blackout in Ukraine, a short-term energy truce was declared. Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Donald Trump for this: “Thank you very much to Trump for talking with Putin.” However, according to Reuters, the USA has suspended energy assistance to Ukraine, and speakers report the freezing of about 5 billion dollars from Joe Biden's aid program. In the US budget for the fiscal year 2026, 400 million dollars are allocated for Ukraine, while 1.4 billion dollars are for the Philippines.
