You will have to pay for technical water as for drinking: Popenko talks about the 'surprise' with tap water

The Verkhovna Rada adopted a law that allows water utilities to temporarily reduce the quality of water. Water supply tariffs have increased 10-11 times over the past 10 years, but the quality of services remains poor.

Law on Reducing Water Quality

According to the document, drinking water supply enterprises can temporarily deviate from the quality requirements in case of lack of necessary funds. Expert Oleg Popenko called this initiative absurd.

Statistics show that water tariffs in Ukraine have increased 10-11 times from 2014 to 2025, yet the quality of water has remained at the same level. Now, with the possibility of lowering standards, the situation may worsen.

The expert noted that the law was agreed upon with water utilities, but consumer interests were not taken into account. He criticized the authorities for their lack of attention to consumer problems.

Oleg Popenko believes that it is becoming more difficult for Ukrainians to obtain reliable water. This may force people to spend money on water purification systems or constantly buy bottled water, impacting family budgets.

The adoption of the law allows water utilities to temporarily reduce the quality of water due to lack of funds; however, this may affect consumers who will have to look for alternative sources of drinking water or devise their own water purification methods.
