Who Taught AI to Decipher Ukrainian Scripts? Results from the Handwritten to Data AI Challenge

According to Мінцифра: The Handwritten to Data AI challenge brought together more than 850 participants who generated 6,800 model versions to train artificial intelligence in recognizing Ukrainian handwritten texts. This event ranks among the largest AI competitions in Ukraine, highlighting the country's growing engagement with advanced technologies in this field.

Final Outcomes and Real-World Applications

In the final stage, ten teams competed, presenting their solutions for deployment in the public sector. Their proposals include:

  • automating document processing within the eDozvil project;
  • digitizing archival collections in partnership with the State Archives;
  • automatically grading homework assignments as part of the Mriya project.

Winners received grants to bring their innovations to life.

The results of the Handwritten to Data AI challenge underscore notable advancements in artificial intelligence technology in Ukraine, particularly in text recognition.
