According to glavcom.ua: The Russian foreign passport of the mayor of Odessa was obtained in 2015 for a period of 10 years. Following an appeal to Russian authorities in 2017, his internal passport was canceled, but this did not deprive him of his Russian citizenship. The Security Service confirmed that Trukhanov remains a citizen of the aggressor country, holding an identification code in the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation.

The commission under the President of Ukraine on citizenship issues has decided to suspend the citizenship of the mayor of Odessa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, due to his possession of citizenship of the Russian Federation. The corresponding decision is confirmed by the presidential decree and is based on the evidence provided by the Security Service. According to information from the SBU, Trukhanov is a citizen of the Russian Federation and holds a valid foreign passport from that country.

The Ukrainian side has initiated the process of depriving Hennadiy Trukhanov of citizenship due to the possession of a Russian passport. This decision is dictated by Ukrainian legislation, which does not allow dual citizenship. According to the official position of Ukraine, a citizen of Ukraine cannot simultaneously be a citizen of a country that violates the territorial integrity of our country.
